How You Can Help

1. Join Our Contact List. Please send your email address and phone number to purewest@verizon.net. We will contact you about important events and meetings. If and when this issue goes up before the zoning and planning boards again, we will need a big turnout!

2. Come to a RUSH Meeting. It’s the best way to get updates and find out how you can help. Our summer meetings will take place at the Pearl River Library.  Meetings begin at 7pm and will be held on Monday, November 17; and Wednesday, December 10. (These meetings are not sponsored at the library.)

3. Make a Donation. We are raising funds to pay for our legal costs. Any amount is welcome. Please make checks payable to RUSH and mail to Kevin Christie, 45 Rollins Ave., Pearl River, NY 10965. (RUSH is a non-profit organization, but donations to RUSH are not tax deductible by law.)

Writing Points:
It’s time to let the county know how we feel about Hillside. Your letter could include some of the following points, but you should include your own personal concerns about the proposed development.

• Point out that the proposed development area could pose an obstruction to Muddy Creek, part of the county stream system. Ask that the county request that Charles “Skip” Vezetti, chairman of the Rockland County Drainage agency, refuse to give a permit to this plan unless he is 100% sure that no additional flooding will occur as a result.

• Let them know that the Orangetown Zoning Board concluded that the proposed facilities “would not produce an undesirable change in the neighborhood and a detriment to nearby properties.” Tell them that if this matter goes before the ZBA again, you want their support to make sure the board members do not make such an erroneous conclusion again.
